Get listed where your town gets listed

A link from your local chamber of commerce, a regional business directory, or the town tourism site does more for a local business than a hundred random links ever could. These are the places Google expects a real, rooted business to appear. Find the obvious ones and get on them.

The move

List three local organizations or directories you should be on. Get on the first one this week.

Do it step by step

  1. Search your town + "chamber of commerce" and "business directory."
  2. Add the obvious ones: chamber, tourism site, county or regional listings.
  3. Add your trade's associations too — builders, restaurants, contractors.
  4. On each, use your exact name, address, and phone — matching everywhere else.
  5. Link back to your website with your real business name as the text.
  6. Join the first one this week; note the rest for later.
  7. Ask a supplier or a business you partner with for a link, too.
