Local search

Local SEO for northern Minnesota businesses

Local SEO is a grand name for something fairly plain: making sure that when somebody nearby searches for what you do, your business is the one that turns up, with the right details attached. No tricks. Mostly groundwork, done properly, and then kept up.

The move

Claim your Google Business Profile and fill every field. Start there.

What it actually is

When you search a service and a map appears with three businesses pinned on it, that map is where most local work is won. Ranking there has less to do with your website’s cleverness than with whether your information is complete, consistent, and trusted.

Which means the job breaks down into a short list of unglamorous things:

Your Google Business Profile, claimed and filled. Google has probably already made a listing for your business. If it is unclaimed, it is a storefront with somebody else’s lock on the door. Every field filled — hours, phone, services, photos — does more than most website changes.

The same details everywhere. Your name, address, and phone written one way and used one way, down to the punctuation. Search engines notice contradictions, and contradictions cost you.

A page for each job you do. One page trying to rank for six services ranks for none of them. Separate pages, each with one job.

The town, named. Not stuffed into every sentence — named naturally, where a person would expect to read it.

Reviews, asked for and answered. Not bought. Asked for, at the moment the work is done well, and replied to afterwards.

A site that loads fast on a phone on rural data. Speed is not a vanity metric up here.

We manage it, but none of it is secret

For businesses on the plan this is handled — Search Console and your Business Profile are managed, backlinks are tracked, and the monthly report says plainly what moved. It is part of the monthly care plan, not a line item.

If you would rather do it yourself, we have written the same checklist we work from: plain-English SEO tips for local business owners — twenty short notes, each one an afternoon-sized job. Start with claiming the Google Business Profile you already have, then keeping your name, address, and phone consistent. No upsell in any of them.

What we won't do

We won’t promise a ranking. Nobody who is honest can — the results move, the competition moves, and anybody quoting you a position is quoting you a guess.

We won’t stuff keywords into your copy until it reads like it was written for a machine. It does not work any more, and it makes you sound like nobody is home.

We won’t buy links or reviews. Both are found eventually, and the cleanup costs more than the gain.

What we will do is the groundwork, every month, and tell you what it is doing.

The plan

Local SEO isn’t a separate charge — it is part of the $150 monthly, along with the build, updates, and monitoring. See what a website costs and what is included, have a look at the sites we've built, and tell us what you do and where.
