Describe your own photos
Every image can carry a line of text that search engines read and screen readers speak aloud — the "alt text." Left blank, it’s a missed chance; filled in honestly, it helps you show up in image search and makes your site usable for everyone. Describe what’s actually in the photo, simply.
The move
Add alt text to your three most important images. "Wood-fired sourdough on a cooling rack," not "IMG_4032."
Do it step by step
- Pick your three most important images (homepage hero, top service, a real work shot).
- In your site builder, click an image, then find its "Alt text" field.
- Describe what’s actually in the photo, plainly.
- "Wood-fired sourdough on a cooling rack," not "IMG_4032."
- Skip "image of" or "photo of" — screen readers already say that.
- Work in your town or service naturally if it fits — never stuffed.
- Save, then repeat for the next two images.
