Assume they're on a phone

More than half your visitors are reading you on a screen smaller than a paperback. If the text is tiny, the buttons are hard to tap, or the menu is a mess on mobile, Google treats that as a real problem — because for most people, it is. Open your own site on your phone and be honest about what you see.

The move

Pull up your site on your phone right now. Can you book, call, or read without pinching to zoom?

Do it step by step

  1. Open your website on your own phone — not the desktop preview.
  2. Read a paragraph. Can you do it without pinching to zoom?
  3. Tap your main button (Book, Call, Order). Easy to hit with a thumb?
  4. Open the menu. Does it work cleanly, or is it cramped?
  5. Scroll top to bottom. Anything spill off the screen or need side-scrolling?
  6. Try the whole thing one-handed, the way a real customer would.
  7. Note every rough spot — that's your fix list.
