Web tips · Note 01 · Local search

Claim the profile you already have

Google has probably already made a listing for your business — you just haven't claimed it. An unclaimed Google Business Profile is a storefront with someone else's lock on the door. Claim it, fill every field, and you’ve done more for local search in an afternoon than most websites do in a year.

The move

Search your business name on Google, look for "Own this business?", and claim it today.

Do it step by step

  1. Sign in to your Google account, top-right of the screen.
  2. Search your business name and town — e.g. "Sawtooth Café, Grand Marais."
  3. Your listing opens on the right. Find "Own this business?" and tap it.
  4. Confirm it's yours, then tap "Manage now."
  5. Choose a verification method Google offers — video, phone, text, email, or postcard.
  6. No claim button? Tap "Request access" instead. The owner has three days to reply.
  7. Once verified, fill every field: hours, phone, website, services, photos.
